Kevin Watters has an Associate of Arts degree in Communication from Cloud County Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education from Fort Hays State University.

He has taught carpentry, woodworking, drafting and architecture at the high school level, but left teaching to become a recruiter at Fort Hays State University before pursuing a sales career with companies such as IBM.

After deciding he preferred a rural life, he started KR Construction in Arkansas City in 2000, specializing in new home construction, remodeling and small commercial construction. After his father passed away in 2004, he moved back to the Brookville area to watch after his mother and the family farm.
He has taught at Salina Tech since 2009.
