Credit for Prior Learning

Salina Area Technical College recognizes the validity of prior learning which took place outside the traditional college classroom. Therefore, we have a policy and process in place to allow students to be awarded college credit for learning which took place through activities such as on-the-job training, serving in the military, advanced level courses completed while in high school, volunteering, and credit by examination. Some specific examples of credit for prior learning include:

    1. Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

    2. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Exams

    3. Credit by Examination (sometimes referred to as “quiz-out” exams)

    4. International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs

    5. Military Credit – (credit based on American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations)

    6. Portfolio Review of life experience such as on-the-job training
