Getting Started at Salina Tech

College is a trip!
Use these directions to get started at Salina Tech:

It is always recommended that interested students take a campus tour before applying. If at any time you'd like to talk to a student services staff member about all that what we currently offer for continuing education and workforce/professional development, please call (785) 309-3100.

  1. Print and fill out the Application for Admission. The $83.00 campus fee must accompany the completed application for application to be processed. Send in completed application and fee to:

  1. Request your high school transcript or GED scores be sent to SATC
    Contact your high school or GED to have your official transcript or official scores sent to Salina Tech. If you received your GED in Kansas, contact the Kansas Board of Regents or download and send in this Kansas Board of Regents GED Request Form.
  1. Tuition and fees are due on or before the first day of class.
    If you have been approved for financial aid of any kind (scholarships, grants, loans, VA benefits, VR or WIA funds, etc.) the paperwork must be done before the first day of class.
    Students using Veterans or Military benefits of any kind should make an appointment to see our VA Representative in Student Services.
    Students with balances due on the first day of class will be removed from class rosters.
  1. Attend an Enrollment Day
    Our Student Services office will contact you to attend an “Enrollment Day.” You will take the Compass Placement Test(s), order your books, order uniforms and tools (if applicable and if you have not already done so), and as needed, apply for Financial Aid.
    Compass Placement Testing
    All new degree or certificate seeking students are required to provide evidence of their starting levels in Reading and Math. The free test takes about 30-45 minutes. Placement testing is done at Enrollment Days or for walk-in test hours, please call Student Services. Students who have the appropriate scores on the ACT or SAT, have taken English or Math to the required level at another college, or have earned an Associates degree in the past may not need to take the assessment exam. Scores will need to be submitted to Student Services before
    Ordering Books
    Books are ordered for students enrolled in full or half time programs in May and are available for purchase in August. Book cost estimates are available in advance.
    Ordering Uniforms
    Students are expected to order his or her own uniforms through Salina Tech’s uniform vendor. During Enrollment Days the uniform vendor will be on site to take orders and answer questions.
    Apply for financial aid (optional)
    Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at the financial aid office or on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov if you plan to apply for any kind of aid (grants, loans, and scholarships). The application process can take 6-8 weeks to complete, so apply early! You will need your current tax return information and/or your parent(s) tax return information if you are less than 24 years old and unmarried. For more assistance, call (785) 309-3100.

  2. New Student Orientation
    New students enrolling in a technical certificate or degree program are required to attend one orientation day.

    For students enrolled in technical certificate or degree programs beginning August 23,
    Orientation Days are:

    Wednesday, August 11, 2010
              --OR--
    Thursday, August 12

    Attendance is required at one of the two orientation days unless otherwise approved by the Director of Student Services in advance.

    Orientation topics will be announced at Enrollment Days or in letters to enrolled students after June 1. Students will take ID photos at his or her orientation day.
