General Education Assessment Plan FY10
General Education Program Learning Outcomes: Each general education class will assess one of the following lifelong skills:
- Communication: students will develop effective written and/or verbal communication skills necessary for lifelong learning.
- Critical Thinking: students will develop critical thinking skills necessary for lifelong learning. Students must be able to solve problems involving several steps of analysis and judgment.

CS105: Students will demonstrate mastery of critical thinking skills by averaging 2 or higher on two course projects:
- Creating a spreadsheet and charts to analyze, investigate and/or interpret numerical financial data to support the problem-solving process.
- Design, create and maintain a database

Student scores will be averaged for the above two assignments, 3 = excellent; 2 = acceptable; 1 = unacceptable. Each assignment will have an average score. |

ENG 100: 80% of students will average 2.0 or higher on the technical communication writing assignment.

An assignment will be designed to evaluate a student’s written communication skills. The assignment must be appropriate for the workplace, clear, professional, and concise. A rubric will be used for scoring consistency: 3 = excellent; 2 = acceptable; 1 = unacceptable. Student scores will be averaged and analyzed.

Math students will demonstrate mastery of critical thinking by scoring 70% or higher on the critical thinking questions.

Each class will have a final exam that includes critical thinking questions designed to demonstrate student’s ability to “solve problems involving several steps of analysis and judgment.”
Data will be collected for Math 101 and Math 105 in the fall and Math 150 in the spring. |
