Math Requirements for Electronics Students
Trish Hayden met with Nate Davis to discuss math requirements for Applied Electronics Technology. She reported as follows:
Benchmarks for Technical Communications Classes and NOCTI Scores
Barbara Coleman reported that she had discussed basic standards, or benchmarks, for reading skills with Regents administrative personnel. The Regents are encouraging schools to establish minimum standards and to provide remediation to students who need assistance. The committee agreed to consider the matter at a future meeting.
Mrs. Coleman was also concerned about determining whether there are recognized minimum standards on NOCTI testing. The information is needed for annual statistical reporting to the Kansas Board of Regents. Trish Hayden will investigate NOCTI scoring and report.
DANB testing site
There was general discussion about the possibility of including professional licensing tests as end-of-program third party testing, specifically the Dental Assistant National Board Testing (DANB). Several graduates of the Dental Assistant program have taken National Boards upon completing the Dental Assistant Program.
We discussed the possibility of including the DANB registration and testing in program fees. One of the barriers is that tests must be administered in an approved testing center.
Janet Fisher and Trish Hayden volunteered to investigate the possibility of having SATC designated as a DANB testing site.
John Black moved that Janet Fisher and Trish Hayden be authorized to inquire into DANB requirements for SATC to become an approved testing center. The motion was seconded by Tom Phillips and was unanimously approved.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be in the Dental Assistant classroom at 10:50 am on Friday, March 12 2010.
John Black, Secretary
