Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
December 16, 2009

Members Present:  Tom Phillips, Janet Fisher, Janice Ramsey, John Black, Barbara Coleman, and Trish Hayden, chairman

Members Absent:  Jeramie Rick and Greg Goode.

Minutes:    The minutes of the November 6, 2009 meeting were approved electronically and have been posted on the SATC website. http://www.salinatech.edu/faculty_and_staff/assessment/assessment_committee.shtml

Student Evaluation

A student evaluation of instruction used at Manhattan Technical College was reviewed by the committee.   The survey form is a commercial product which costs 30 cents for each student and $7.00 for each class.   Janet Fisher moved that the survey be conducted this spring on a pilot basis.  The motion was seconded by John Black and APPROVED.

NOCTI Testing

Mrs. Coleman suggested that NOCTI testing be moved from May to the first week of April.  Last year, test results were not available at the end of school.   The reason for advancing the test date is to allow students to receive reports.   John Black moved that NOCTI testing be rescheduled from May to April.  The motion was not seconded.

John Black then moved that Trish Hayden informally poll all instructors on the subject and report back to the committee at its next meeting.   The motion was seconded by Janet Fisher and was APPROVED.

REPORTS

Trish Hayden reported that Commercial Art and Auto Tech have had difficulty in recruiting independent evaluators for NOCTI assessment.  She also reported on the WIN WorkKeys program available to help students prepare for ACT WorkKeys.   The reports were discussed, but no action was taken.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 am.  The next meeting is subject to call by the chairman.
