Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
May 08, 2009


Members Present:  Barb Coleman, Tom Phillips, Janet Fisher, Jeramie Rick, Trish Hayden, John Black

Members Absent:  Janice Ramsey
Agenda:


Minutes:  Tom pointed out that the word “minimum” should be changed to “maximum” in regard to how many skills should be listed.  There should be a maximum of 3 skills listed, and this only pertains to parts B and C.  Trish said that she would make these two changes.  The minutes were approved.


Critical Thinking:
John had been asked to give his ideas regarding the definition of “critical thinking.”  The following are some suggestions he gave the committee:

Janet moved, and Tom seconded, that we define “Critical Thinking” in a simplified fashion for the instructors.  The motion was carried.  Janet and John will bring some more examples of ways to define “Critical Thinking” to the next meeting. 


Purpose and Procedures:
John told the committee that we need to state what our purpose is, and what are procedures are going to be.  After some discussion, the committee drafted the following purpose:

Purpose:  The purpose of this committee is to monitor and evaluate measurement both at the program and institutional level.

Janet moved and Tom seconded that the Assessment Committee’s Purpose be accepted.  The motion was carried.

Procedures:
The following are suggestions of statements that should be in our procedures:

Jane and Trish will work on a procedure statement before the next meeting.
Barb stressed the need for back-up for the assessments.


Next Meeting:
It was felt that we need more time to work on our mission.  There was a suggestion that the meetings begin at 10:50 instead of 11:00 from now on.  The next meeting will be on May 15, in the Dental Lab, at 10:50.  Janet moved to adjourn and Jeramie seconded. (It was Tom’s day to “second,” but Jeramie couldn’t help himself!)   The meeting was adjourned.
