Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
May 01, 2009
Members Present: Barb Coleman, Tom Phillips, Janet Fisher, Janice Ramsey, Jeramie Rick,
Trish Hayden
Members Absent: John Black
Agenda:
Tom ran the meeting in John’s absence.
Minutes: There was some discussion about the notation in the April 24th meeting minutes regarding whether the new classes would have transferrable college credit to another institution. We have since learned that they can be transferred. Janet move and Jeramie seconded that the minutes be accepted. The motion was carried.
Assessment Form:
Tom’s suggestions…
- Areas B and C are critical.
- We could use help from John to determine which areas are considered “critical thinking.”
- The biggest area of concern he has is attendance. He would like to see that count more toward the grade.
- Estimating material is a critical part of his class. The students should be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.
Assessment Form:
From members of the committee…
- “Workplace” is one word.
- “Assessment” should be replaced by “Measurement.”
- There should be a maximum of 3 skills listed for B and C.
- We should put the numbers of the old competencies on the form so we can see how the old form and the new few form correspond with each other.
- After the assessment form is presented to the faculty, it is up to each faculty member to fill out the form for his/her program. When it is completed, members of the Assessment Committee will evaluate it.
Tom and Janet will work on the form to “tweak” it.
In General:
- Tom said that the NCCER should take the place of NOCTI. It is specific to the Construction trade.
- Trish said that she would be willing to help set up uniform forms for the college to use.
- Remember that we need to actually have the back up for the assessments. We have to have supporting material.
Next Meeting:
- Friday, May 8th, at 11:00 in the Dental Lab
- We will be setting up policies and procedures for our committee.
It was moved by Janet, and seconded by Jeramie (who else?) that the meeting be adjourned. And…that’s what happened!
