The Program

The construction industry today is fast-paced, and with projected growth in the commercial and residential building sectors in the coming years, the need for young skilled professionals who can add measurable value to a variety of construction projects is becoming increasingly prominent.

Students who enroll in Salina Tech’s Construction Technology Program gain the knowledge and skills that are necessary to safely perform a wide range of construction related tasks. From heavy equipment operation and estimating, to steel framing and finishing, our graduates leave prepared to successfully pursue a career in a construction discipline of their choice.

In just nine short months at Salina Tech, students learn to work with blueprints and building codes and have the opportunity to play important roles in real-world construction projects throughout the Salina area.

Program Outcomes

1. Develop a basic understanding and demonstrate the ability to perform the entry level skills in structural framing.
2.  Develop a basic understanding and demonstrate the ability to perform the entry level skills in concrete forming and finishing.
3.  Develop a basic understanding and demonstrate the ability to perform the entry level skills in interior and exterior finishing.
4.  Develop human relation skills and a professional behavior for the workplace including appropriate attire for a business, attendance, and professionalism.
5. Develop an understanding of the importance of work related skills such as:  working independently, teamwork, being shop foreman for a week, following instructions, time management, problem solving and critical thinking.
6. Become proficient in construction math, blueprint reading, and tape measure calculations.


 Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a student to successfully perform the essential functions of working in this field. Reasonable accomodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

While performing the duties of this program, the student is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The student frequently is required to sit and use hands to handle or feel. The student is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The student must work in various weather conditions such as excessive heat or cold. The student must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this field include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
